Losing Staff Development Agencies & Local Authorities: Funding Cuts? Losing Staff?
We recently heard of a Development Agency that lost 75% of the funding for their Advice Worker.
Reluctantly, they reduced the worker's hours to 1 day a week. The worker left to find other employment. A suitable replacement couldn't be found for just 1 day per week. Around 60 groups per year had been supported by the worker who also kept the funding and governance literature up to date.
Similar reports are on the increase with Development Agencies and Local Authorities looking for ways of delivering high quality support for a fraction of the previous cost.
We've developed a way to help you do this. With a MaD (Money and Development) Manual Partnership Deal, you can continue to provide up-to-date support and advice to at least 100 voluntary and community organisations for just £4,500 (ex VAT) per year! In many cases this is under 20% of the traditional cost of providing this amount of support.
We're not suggesting you get rid of your advice worker in order to save money - far from it. If your funding is being cut, we strongly recommend you seek to fund your worker from another source if at all possible because your client charities and voluntary organisations are going to need all the advice and support you can give them. This is why we are supporting the Funding Advice Workers' Network in the Humber Region using income generated by the East Riding MaD Manual (part of our ongoing social enterprise committment).
The MaD Manual can significantly supplement the advice service you currently provide, helping you reach more clients groups with a wider range of high quality support (even when you're closed), or it can give you the facility of continuing to provide a high quality service should you find you can no longer fund a full time worker. It can be branded with your logo and can link into other services and support you may already be providing.
Your client groups will benefit from you continuing to deliver quality services and support in an effective, efficient and accessible way.

A marked increase in bid writing requests from small to medium sized organisations, has led us to extend the direct support we provide in the writing of funding proposals.
The new BidWriter Service use the BidWriter Training Programme materials to directly organisations on specific funding applications.
A BidWriter Fundraising Consultant (Certificated Full Member of the Institute of Fundraising) can work directly with you to formulate a written funding proposal to an agreed programme, whilst giving one of your workers or volunteers specific coaching to write a parallel application.
You then have the choice of using our Consultant's work or to use the parallel proposal your worker or volunteer has produced.

Services 
The e-Values service offers an evaluation with a full written report of funded projects or a whole organisation and can include an interim monitoring service and/or peer support/training on skills and systems.
A minimum of five days of research/data collection, analysis/evaluation and report writing is recommended and full reports can be produced in a guide price range of £2,875 to £5,750 plus VAT. However, consultants from our e-Values Team, can be engaged on a daily basis to give as much or as little input as required. We can advise on how much of the work you can do effectively do yourself and we are very interested in supporting your organisation to develop 'in-house' skills for continuing and future evaluation work that may be needed.
An e-Values report is ideal for organisations who have received substantial grant funding and need an external independent evaluation in order to report back to the funder. Typically, funders like the Big Lottery may ask for an evaluation of a project if the project organisation intends to apply for continuation funding.

Independent Evaluations
New BidWriter Service for Small Organisations
(typically under £250k annual income)
Due to an increase in the number of requests by small and medium sized charities and voluntary organisations, we are now offering a service of direct support in the writing of funding applications and proposals.
The BidWriter Service is linked closely to our already successful BidWriter Training programme and uses the training materials to support charites and organisations on a one to one basis.
We place one of our Fundraising Consultants with the client organisation to research and formulate a funding proposal to an agreed programme. The organisation can also nominate a worker or volunteer to 'shadow' the consultant, receive one to one coaching and write a parallel application. At the end of the service period, the organisation then has the choice of using the proposal which was formulated using the MaD Resource Fundraising Consultant's work or to use the parallel proposal their worker/volunteer has produced.
The project is discussed by email and over the phone in the initial stages followed by a free 1-hour preliminary consultation before each project begins.
